According to insider information from VGC, Nintendo’s next-generation console is anticipated for a potential release in 2024. Key partner studios have reportedly received development kits for this upcoming system, a common practice among platform-holders like Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony to allow studios to commence game development and hardware testing. The specific studios involved in the project were not disclosed in the report.

While no official announcements have been made by Nintendo regarding this new console, multiple sources have informed VGC that the company is aiming for a launch during the second half of 2024. Unfortunately, no details regarding pricing were mentioned, but it’s worth noting that the previous Nintendo Switch was initially priced at $300.

As for the speculated features of the new console, the report suggests that it will maintain a “portable mode” similar to the Nintendo Switch, enabling users to play on the go. Instead of using an OLED screen, it may opt for an LCD display to manage costs. The system is expected to support both physical game cartridges and digital downloads. Additionally, it was previously reported that Nintendo intends to retain the same account system for user convenience.

Although no official statement has been issued by Nintendo regarding this report, GameSpot has sought further clarification from the company.

Earlier on, a research firm had predicted that Nintendo would unveil its next major gaming platform in 2024, and in May of an unspecified year, it was reported that development progress on the new console was going smoothly.

While there have been long-standing rumors of a more powerful version of the Switch, Nintendo has not confirmed this. The company, however, has acknowledged its intention to introduce a new console before the year 2100.

Over the years, Nintendo has introduced various models, such as the Switch Lite in 2019 and the OLED model in October 2021, but the speculated “Switch Pro” model has yet to materialize.

Currently in its seventh year, the Nintendo Switch continues to achieve significant sales figures, though they have shown some decline recently. Despite being tight-lipped about future hardware, Nintendo marketing executive Doug Bowser has expressed confidence in the current model, describing it as a genuinely unique device, capable of both home and on-the-go gaming.

While the specifics of Nintendo’s next console remain undisclosed, Bowser emphasized the company’s commitment to “surprise and delight” customers by introducing innovative and distinctive ways of playing games. The success of the Nintendo Switch, with over 125 million units sold, has solidified its position as the third best-selling console of all time.
