In the ever-shifting world of League of Legends, some champions remain unwavering in their popularity, regardless of the constantly evolving meta. If you’ve been immersed in the game for an extended period, you’re probably acquainted with a select few of these enduring figures. Surprisingly, or perhaps unsurprisingly, three of the most vexing champions consistently dominate the mid lane.
In Patch 13.17, Yasuo, Zed, and Yone reign supreme as the most frequently chosen mid laners across all ranks, as reported by the League statistics website U.GG. The two brothers, Yasuo and Yone, maintain pick rates of 12.2% and 9.7%, respectively, while Zed boasts a 12.1% pick rate (at the time of writing this article). To put this into perspective, these champions collectively feature in approximately 700,000 to 900,000 matches during this patch.

However, despite their frequent selection, these champions appear to be struggling in the current meta. At the time of writing, all three of them sport win rates below 50%.

Zed, Yone, and Yasuo are assassins renowned for their potential to make game-changing plays when piloted skillfully during the laning phase. Yet, many players opt for them without adequate preparation. The League community, particularly in the lower ranks, is often characterized by its volatility, with players prone to frustration and leaving matches when things don’t go their way.
In general, all three of these champions are considered irksome to play alongside or against. When one of them is on your team, the odds are they may resort to trolling if they fall behind in their lane. Conversely, facing off against a skilled player wielding these champions can lead to a crushing defeat. It appears there’s little middle ground. In my personal experience, it’s usually one extreme or the other.
Nonetheless, this isn’t to say that composed and proficient Yasuo, Zed, or Yone players don’t exist. They are simply a rare breed in the League of Legends community.
