Attention gamers and esports enthusiasts in Calgary, Canada! YMCA Calgary is breaking new ground with the launch of its groundbreaking Esports Pilot Program, the first of its kind in the country. This initiative is all set to unite the youth of Calgary through the world of competitive gaming and healthy competition.

Tanya Connolly, a representative from YMCA Calgary, explains that the inspiration for this program came from engaging with the younger community. It became clear that offering an esports program was a fantastic way to cater to the younger generation’s interests. The program will include virtual tournaments, fostering sportsmanship, teamwork, and friendly rivalry, and is specifically designed for ages 8 to 17.

The program will be rolled out in four exciting phases, each offering a unique gaming experience:

Fall 2023 – Virtual Tournaments: This marks the program’s kickoff phase, featuring online tournaments that you can join from the comfort of your own home.

Winter 2024 – In-Person Tournaments: As the weather cools down, the action heats up with in-person tournaments that bring local gamers together for thrilling face-offs.

Spring 2024 – Leagues: The esports program evolves, introducing organized leagues for those seeking a more competitive and long-term gaming experience.

Summer 2024 – Day Camps: The program reaches its climax with summer day camps, combining gaming with social interaction and fun in the sun.

But that’s not all! YMCA Calgary’s Esports Pilot Program welcomes everyone, whether you’re a YMCA member or not. It’s an opportunity for gamers from all walks of life to come together, have fun, and compete in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Do I have to be a YMCA member? No, you don’t need to be a YMCA member to participate. Everyone is welcome to join in on the esports action.
