The official anthem of the 2023 League of Legends World Championship has been unveiled by Riot Games, featuring the track “GODS” by NewJeans. This momentous debut took place online on October 4, 2023, at 12:02 AM, signifying a significant milestone in the realm of LEAGUE OF LEGENDS.

The accompanying music video for the Worlds song is now accessible on YouTube. It revolves around the journey of Deft, the reigning League world champion, from his early days playing Riot’s MOBA in high school to his breakthrough in the LCK, culminating in DRX’s memorable championship victory last year.

The premiere of this music video on October 3 garnered substantial attention, with over 108,000 enthusiastic League fans tuning in. Many lauded the animation style as “incredible” and commended Riot for masterfully capturing Deft’s path to the 2022 title.

In addition to Deft’s prominent role, other renowned League of Legends stars, including Faker, Keria, Showmaker, Rekkles, Chovy, and more, made appearances in the four-minute Worlds cinematic.

Notably, this collaboration on “GODS” marks the inaugural instance of a K-pop act performing League of Legends’ Worlds anthem. NewJeans is the third girl group to join the game’s esteemed music catalog, following (G)I-DLE in 2018 and Twice, who performed as K/DA in 2020.

Anticipated with great enthusiasm, the five members of NewJeans—Danielle, Haerin, Hanni, Hyein, and Minji—are set to deliver a live performance of the song at the grand final of the event, scheduled to take place at the Gocheok Sky Dome in November. This promises to be a remarkable fusion of esports and music, captivating audiences worldwide.

Furthermore, it’s worth noting that the tradition of creating a League Worlds anthem commenced in 2014 when Imagine Dragons crafted a game-themed music video for “Warriors.” Over the years, this tradition has produced memorable anthems, including “Worlds Collide” by Nicky Taylor in 2015, “Ignite” by Zedd in 2016, and a succession of other celebrated tracks.

As we embark on Worlds 2023, commencing on October 9, with a high-stakes qualifying match between Golden Guardians and Team BDS to secure the final slot among the 22 participating teams, we reflect upon a decade of remarkable musical contributions to the League of Legends World Championship. “GODS” by NewJeans now stands as the latest addition to this illustrious legacy.
